SEATTLE, Wash., May 2023 – City of Seattle’s IT Division and Office of Economic Development recently leveraged Onit’s business process and organizational change management expertise to streamline the City’s special event permitting process. With 13 City departments and two State of Washington agencies involved in issuing permits for use of City streets, parks, and buildings, the organizers of festivals, marathons, farmers’ markets, and other activities often received their permits only a few days before their events, instead of two weeks in advance per municipal code. To prepare the City for digitization of the largely manual process and to support selection of the best IT solution, Onit used a Lean/Agile hybrid approach to map the process, document pain points, identify nearly 50 opportunities for process improvement, and create a framework to analyze and score potential solutions. This let the City substantially improve its current state and make a data-driven decision on the best approach for its future state.
